Two Wheeler

Today will go down in the history books as the day Riley learned to ride his two wheeler! He's been riding his balance bike all summer and doing very well. Last weekend we asked if he wanted to try his Spiderman bike without training wheels. He said, "Sure!" But he was all talk and once he got going and the pedals got in the way of running his feet like he does on his balance bike, he wanted to get back on his balance bike. We didn't push it. This morning I asked if he wanted to try again and he agreed...this time he put his feet on the pedals right away and pedaled a couple of times and looked at me with a huge "Oh my gosh, I did it, mom!" grin! It was history from there!

He started out this morning pedaling a couple of times and by the end of the day he was going very fast around our cul de sac and having a blast!

I highly recommend balance bikes...I really think bikes with training wheels provide "negative" training.

Hopefully the weather holds out and we get another couple of months before the snow starts falling so Riley can keep practicing!

Way to go Riley!! We just got Jack a 12" bike and took the pedals off, but he's still just an inch or so too short to use it yet. But we're planning to start him on a balance bike as soon as we can. Maybe this spring he'll be able to use it. Riley gives us hope that this is a better way to train him than training wheels :)
