So I have to admit, we're not exactly the most religious family in the world...definitely not part of the "church every Sunday" crowd. However, we go to church on the important days (affectionately known as Christmas and Easter or C&E Catholics) and we've always thought it was important to raise our kids with some type of faith. One of the first initiation sacraments in the Catholic faith is baptism, which Riley experienced this weekend. Aunt Sarah and Uncle Jason are the "Godparents" and came over for the big ceremony along with Jace and Aunt Meghan. Below are some very memorable quotes from today:
"You're so pretty!" -some random lady talking to Riley after we put his gown on
"He's not a princess! Take it off!!" -Jace ordering us to take off Riley's "dress" right before the ceremony started...where does he learn this stuff?!
"Riley, you smell Catholic!" -Aunt Meghan commenting on the oil they rubbed on Riley's head
"Ewwww, stinky!" -Jace commenting in front of everyone on the scent of the oil when the priest called all of the little kids up to explain the ceremony
So on the second try, we found a church that we really like. The people are all very nice and not judgemental about the fact that we've lived here for a couple of years and just joined the church (unlike the first church we tried!). The priest is very approachable and not long winded (again, unlike the first church we tried). And they have a great nursery for Riley to hang out in while Cody and I go to mass. We've already run into quite a few people we know from work at mass so although we're new to the parish, we already have friends there. So I guess we'll be going to church a little more often than Christmas and Easter from now on :)
